The typical salary range for this position is $41 300.00 - $61 900.00 annually. The base salary offered will be determined based on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity considerations.
This posting is for an existing temporary, full-time position.
SUMMARY:
The Inventory Manager Intern will assist with tasks and contribute to the buying functions within the Grocery Replenishment department to attain the objectives. The Inventory Manager Team controls the Grocery replenishment function for all banners for a selected group of vendors and is responsible for managing inventory valued at an average of $280,000,000 annually. They are accountable for meeting service level and inventory turn objectives in multiple distribution centres. The Inventory Management Team is responsible for managing a large portfolio of products through multiple week timelines to satisfy the needs of several diverse merchandising programs and must have the ability to control inventory and maintain an acceptable service level to the stores in multiple distribution centres.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with analyzing and forecasting product requirements using system recommendations, promotions, and stock on hand.
- Gain an understanding of building orders to maximize the Distribution Centre efficiency and supplier distribution allowances (for full truck, full pallet, full layer).
- Develop a knowledge of data management pertaining to forecasts, product and vendor attributes.
- Monitor inventory levels and inventory movement using system or manual inventory tracking. Develop the intuition to anticipate or react to shortages and overstock immediately.
- Assist with analyzing warehouse in-stock to determine actions needed to improve in-stock levels
- Review orders to ensure product is received when it is scheduled.
- Develop skills to analyze data and anticipate future needs
- Track promotional forecasts to ensure accuracy.
- Assist with maintaining ordering criteria such as consumption, MRP and forecast profiles, supplier lead times, rounding profiles, etc. in SAP
- Support identifying product overstocks to buying team for follow up with Merchandising.
- Develop knowledge to identify issues using data availability within SAP/BW/WMS
- Exposure to Distribution and Transportation teams to co-ordinate flow of goods through the network
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post Secondary Education, preferably specializing in Supply Chain
- Superior time management, priority management and organizational skills
- Possess a great sense of urgency
- Ability to think and respond quickly, and adjust schedules and operating plans in response to unplanned events
- Attention to detail
- High stress tolerance
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Self motivated
- Knowledge of SAP an asset
- Good computer skills in Excel, Word, Outlook
COMPLEXITIES:
The Grocery Replenishment Department operates under significant pressure to meet performance expectations in a highly fast paced environment. This role requires strong organizational, analytical, and planning abilities to support effective inventory management across multiple distribution centres. Timely task execution is essential, even when faced with frequent interruptions from email and other inquiries.
The Inventory Manager Intern will develop critical forecasting and analytical skills by reviewing and interpreting daily information from the Merchandising team. Through this support, the intern will gain hands on experience applying inventory management principles while contributing to the department’s operational goals.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Receives direction from Grocery Replenishment Specialist, Senior Inventory Manager and Director. Communicates verbally and through correspondence on a regular basis with Category Management, Merchandising, Distribution Centre, Store Services and Private Brands personnel across all banners. Communicates verbally and through correspondence on a regular basis with vendors.
